Bible Verses for Weddings
Weddings Celebrate Love and Commitment
Weddings are joyous occasions when two people celebrate their love and commitment to one another. The Bible contains many verses that can be used to offer a wedding blessing or to serve as an inspiration for a wedding ceremony. The following are a few examples.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
This passage is often called the “love chapter” in the Bible. It reads: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Ephesians 5:21-33
This passage reads: “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
Proverbs 18:22
This verse is often used as a wedding toast: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”
Mark 10:9
This verse reads: “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
1 John 4:7-8
This passage reads: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
Song of Solomon 8:6-7
This passage reads: “Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.”
Matthew 19:4-6
This passage reads: “And he answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
